Young Hacks Academy
YOUNG HACKS ACADEMY
Does your child have what it takes to lead in the 21st century? Young Hacks Academy is a summer program that uses technology to develop real-world leadership skills. Blending computer programming, problem-solving, and teamwork, YHA teaches kids to build cool video games and digital media about big challenges facing the world today, such as climate change, homelessness, and endangered wildlife. As serious as we are about exploring technology, YHA is also committed to having fun away from the screen, moving campers outside each day for unplugged games.
No programming experience is required.

April Vacation Camp (April 22-26, 2019)
Agent Training for Grades 5-7
Preparing the next generation of problem-solvers, YHA Agent Training teaches kids to build cool video games about big challenges facing the world today, such as climate change, homelessness, and endangered wildlife. Whether it’s public speaking or collaborating with peers, YHA models essential leadership techniques that will immediately help students in and out of the classroom. Agents tackle daily missions using Scratch, a fun programming tool that empowers students to quickly start developing their own games and interactive stories. The challenge is to come up with a project that will not only entertain their friends, but also teach something about important topics that are impacting our local and global community. For YHA alums and students with advanced Scratch skills, AT Plus projects will also be offered for higher complexity and game customization.
Summer Day Camp (July 15-19, 2019)
Elektra for Girls Grades 6 & 7
A celebration of creative problem-solving and empowerment, YHA Team Elektra all-girls leadership program explores how the combination of digital tools and creative expression can make a difference in the local and global community. As a new design start-up, Team Elektra members are tasked with raising awareness about the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
Using cloud-based software, team members create websites with informational graphics and videos that communicate to the world who we are and the positive change that we seek. Each day, the program addresses important themes relevant to being a healthy adolescent, like identity, self-respect, and connectedness. Unleashing confidence and life skills in a week full of creativity, design, color, and fun, YHA Team Elektra prepares today’s generation of middle school girls to become inspirational leaders of tomorrow.
